cornrows on "white-girl" hair?
Q. Next month, I'm going to a HOT country where I basically won't be able to wash my hair for 3 months. I have extremely thick hair. Due to the heat AND the fact I won't really be able to wash it, I'm considering getting my hair braided into cornrows and leaving it for 3 months. Does anyone know how this will affect my hair in the long-run? (Severe breakage... hair falling out... braids staying in... etc.)
Asked by Marshm3llow - Sun Jul 10 21:49:11 2011 - Hair - 7 Answers - Comments
A. corn rows have to be redone about every 3 weeks and if not properly maintained it will damage your hair

Any ideas for short hair styles for "bigger" women?
Q. I am a 26 year old stay-at-home mom. I'm looking for a shorter hairstyle for the summer, but I'm afraid of making myself look bigger than I am. I also don't really want an "old" or "mom" haircut, but I don't want a "teenager" haircut either. If anyone has pictures or ideas or something that could help me, I'd be very grateful!
Asked by tom8o - Fri May 26 19:18:03 2006 - Hair - 5 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Something with lots of layers and spikes can look young and is soo easy to style. If you have thick hair your stylist can thin your hair out and if it is thinner this will give you more volume and texture. Products like putty and a bit of gel will make styling easy. Talk to your stylist.

Is it normal for a lot of hair to fall out after you have taken out cornrows?
Q. I just took out cornrows and a lot of hair is falling out. The hair isn't "falling out" it's just when I brush it with a comb a ton of hair in the comb. Is this normal? Thanks
Asked by - Fri Aug 26 12:47:11 2011 - Hair - 5 Answers - Comments
A. It is normal to shed up to several hundred hairs per day. With cornrows, the braiding holds all of these in place. Then when you "undo" the braids, they are released. So, YES. The longer you have them in place, the more shed hairs are trapped in the braiding and the more come out later when you undo things.

How long does my hair have to be to get cornrows?
Q. I am black with african hair, the last time i had cornrows my hair was 5cm long in height and the cornrows looked medium size on each cornrow. I cutted my hair and my hair had grown ever since now its about 3.2cm on the top and 2.5cm on the sides. is my hair reday to get cornrowed? The first person to answer first with clear detail will get 10 points.
Asked by PeterFH - Tue Dec 18 17:53:35 2007 - Hair - 4 Answers - Comments
A. I'd say that your hair needs to be between one and two inches long in order for it to be cornrowed. Basically, your hair needs to be long to be plaited in a small section before it can be cornrowed. Also, the shorter your hair is the thinner your cornrows will be, as hair is pulled from the sides and into the plait when a cornrow is made, and the longer your hair is, the wider/bigger the cornrow can be. So the answer you wanted - yes your hair is currently long enough to be cornrowed, but you willl need someone who is experienced in plaiting hair to cornrow it and the plaits are likely to be very small (probably no more than 1cm in width).

How long does your hair need to be for cornrows?
Q. I'm asking this cause my hair is more than long enough for them. In fact I do get them, all the time but my parents are nagging me to get a hair cut cause my hair is "too long" when I take out the braids and wait for the mandatory two weeks to get it done again. So I was wondering how much I need to trim off.
Asked by - Tue Aug 30 20:56:36 2011 - Hair - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Why do you have to wait for two weeks to get your hair done again? You can take cornrows out, wash your hair, and get it braided again right after. And it just matters how long you want it to be... some people have a tighter grip and can cornrow hair that's really short although it will have no hangtime.

Can cornrows be done with 2 and a half inches of natural african-american hair?
Q. I cut my hair around 2 and a half months ago because I was going natural. I now have an afro that is around 2 and a half inches and I wanted to get cornrows with extensions at the end. I wanted a new hairdo and since my afro doesn't allow for much styling options now I wanted to get cornrows. Does anyone know if 2 and a hlaf inches is enough to cornrow. Thanks.

Will my hair become a big afro if I keep my cornrows for a certain time?
Q. I've been growing my afro hair for about 3-4 months and I wondered if my afro hair will become a big afro (like little Michael Jackson) if I keep my hair in cornrows for like 1-2 weeks?
Asked by Shazaam - Sat Mar 21 17:19:57 2009 - Hair - 4 Answers - Comments
A. It depends on the original texture of your hair. If you have a course grade, then yes but you will have to blow dry it. If you, like me, have a softer, curlier grade (but still AA hair)...you will have to work with it to get it to stand up on a regular. If your hair is more curly, why not try a curly afro. It's quite stylish (see Angie Stone's old pics). Good luck. I'm growing one too.

A. 1 inch is long enough for cornrows. But, it all depends on the hair texture. If your hair is straight, it might be more difficult to braid rather than if your hair was curly. I hope you get the hairstyle you want... goodluck, Nikki<3
