I need help deciding on a hairstyle...HELP!!?
Q. I am african american and I'm looking for a hairstyle that is inexpensive but will last atleast 3 weeks at a time. I was thinking about spiral curls but the only thing about that is that I sweat in my hair so the style never lasts as long as I would like. My other option is to do designed cornrows and a bun in the back. Please help me decide!!

How long does my hair need to be to get cornrows?
Q. Hey guys! I'm thinking of getting cornrows, but my hair is pretty short. I'm willing to grow it first. Here is a picture of how I want it the EXACT length as it is in that picture, but I'm not getting any fancy design, just normal cornrows going back. What length will my hair have to be for cornrows like that? Thanks a ton! :)

I have a question for people who do cornrows?
Q. Do you see the style in your mind before you began braiding or do you see the design as your braiding?

How do I learn how to do cornrows?
Q. I wanna learn how to do my boyfriend's hair since the only people he knows that know how to do it will only do it for money, so he ends up having his hair re-braided only ever 2 months or so & it ends up looking so messy. I was watching videos on youtube & I guess it's just like a french braid, but what can I practice on? & he says he hates straight backs, he likes designs w/ overlapping. How do you do you do overlapping braids?? Are hair mannequins expensive?? Helppp I have no idea what i'm doing lol

General manager hair?
Q. I recently got a haircut with designs (a star; roman numeral). I work in a catering restaurant. The general manger disapproves of it. He called me out in front of my co-workers stating the hair is "unprofessional." I told him why... he said guest will affiliate it with gangs. I responded that why others are permitted to have cornrows, twists, and dreadlocks. They are all the same. Women also come with red dye in their hair. The color red is connected with a gang... the Crips. How can i stand up to him. It appears to be a racial thing. With african americans, rarely nothing is said to them. With Hispanics (me), something is always said. Please help

A. i have to agree with your manager...a symbol on your head can be offending...dreads, cornrows, and such are hairstyles. i'm sorry, but i can see where he is coming from.

For african americans, questions about hair?
Q. How do you usually wear your hair? When I was little I would just get cornrows but now I get it relaxed. If you do hair ( Anyone it could be your mother your sister your daughter, etc.) What do you usually do? For my son I put his hair in cornrows and I usually just do twisties or french braids for my niece's. I usually do intricate designs for my sisters.

natural hair style, ignorant comment. how to handle this?
Q. I'm 21 and in college. I went natural a little over a year and a half ago. I change my hair styles all the time and get compliments on it when i wear it out in a fro or twists etc. the hairstyle i had today was designed cornrows in the front with more cornrows in the back with each section going up into a little bun-type thing (it was a random style). And I had a flower in my hair as an accessory. I thought it was really cute. This guy said that it looks like something a 5 year old would wear. He laughed at my hair. I looked in the mirror when I got home and I still thought it was cute. I even got more compliments on my hair after he said that. I know my opinion is what matters the most but I just want to know how should I handle this?… [cont.]

A. Ignore they guy! You're right, your opinion matters most! I wouldn't suggest starting an argument, just blow him off, take it with a grain of salt and let it roll off your back. It sounds cute to me! I get told often that i look like boy because my hair is so short but i like it, its easy and comfy!

Why do most African Americans men have similar haircuts?
Q. It seems like over 8/10 African American just have a shaved head with a hairline and sometimes a design. The other 2/10 have dreads, braids, cornrows or no hair at all.
Asked by SUPERIOR INTELLECT - Fri Jul 31 20:34:54 2009 - Other - Cultures & Groups - 20 Answers - Comments

A. simple. Without straigtening one's hair, its harder to style coarse afro-textured hair into the same ways that whites do it. So our options are generally limited to ceasers, fades, tapers and bald. Aside from that, many other black hairstyles are considered unprofessional. Large afros, dredlocks and cornrows are considered inappropriate for the buisness world so you end up having to chose between individuality and employment. Thats why I ended up cutting my own hair. White guy with small spikes=ok black guy with mini dreads= perceivedl hoodlum

Female Hair Regulations at Marine Corps Bootcamp?
Q. I was wondering if it's ok for females to wear cornrows at boot camp as long as they have no type of design what so ever besides straight back. Preferably female only please.
Asked by Your Gaurdien Angel - Mon Nov 16 15:44:19 2009 - Military - 3 Answers - Comments

A. I'm not a female, but I am a Marine Corps officer. Throughout your military enlistment, you will be required to conform to Marine Corps personal apearance regulations that includes hair length and hair styles. In Marine Corps bootcamp, you will not be allowed to have cornrow hair styles. It is basic training where your time will be taken up learning to be a Marine. If you have serious concerns, now is the time to talk to your Marine Corps recruiter about allowable female Marine hair styles, not only in bootcamp, but after as well. are cornrows still in style?
Q. I need a protective style for my hair this summer, and cornrows is a very good protective style, but are they still in style? I wasn't going to get the big cornrows they would be small, and it is actually one of the styles alicia keys had with the small braids on top in diff designs then the back would be small loose braids.

A. Cornrows never went out...if you want them and like them...get your hair cornrowed. Do not succumb to popularity and fads. If cornrows are out, then so are bobs, ponytails, a buzz, a fade-out, straight, curly...etc. hair. ***TO:Egyptian Sun24: "don't listen to these white people"??? What the heck is that supposed to mean except that you are being totally prejudiced and narrow-minded. There are white people who are beauticians and work with black hair and do have knowledge and some insight about corn rows, afros and such. What a totally ridiculous post.
